How do you make mobility a fluid activity within your company? Sidestep the device wars.
That means focusing not on specific devices, but rather on what those devices can do for your business, according to an article on Manufacturing.net.
“Seek device-independent applications that will work for one person on an iPhone, another on an Android, a BlackBerry, and so on,” says one software expert. “When everyone can access the same database from their preferred devices, adoption and productivity grow.”
We would echo the need for device-neutral field service work orders and timesheet applications. The costs are just too high for software suppliers to create applications over and over again for each mobile platform.
Collecting work order and timesheet hours on a timely basis is valuable information, but most businesses would not get the financial benefit with the costs associated with creating an application for each device platform.
You want unified communications to be platform independent so you can deliver a timesheet or work order application cheaper than other providers. If the cost of collecting that information is much higher than you’re willing to pay, then you’re not going to do it.
